Profile
A product of Zimbabwe's development programme, Walter Chawaguta played one first-class game in 1996-97 for Mashonaland as a middle-order batsman, and that seemed to be the extent of his career as he moved into coaching, initially at Churchill School and then with Zimbabwe Under-19s and A team. He was touted as a possible national coach in 2005 but Kevin Curran got the job, after which he remained close to the national set-up. In 2004 he was briefly a selector, and in 2006-07, aged 34 and after a ten-year absence, he returned to play six more Logan Cup matches for Centrals, without any discernable success. Despite his relative inexperience, he was named as Zimbabwe coach in August, 2008. Steven Price
