 Profile

Ken MacLeay was the reverse of the norm - an Australian who was born in England. A tall, wiry right-arm seamer and a useful middle-order batsman, he was perfectly suited to the one-day game as was unfortunate to only play in 16 ODIs. He was in the Australian side during the 1983 World Cup, and during that tournament he took 6 for 39 against India at Trent Bridge. At state level he was prolific with both bat and ball. In all he scored three hundreds, the best a brisk 114 against New South Wales at Peeth in 1986-87; with the ball his best was 6 for 93 against the same opposition on the same ground a season earlier. But despite this, he was never seriously considered for the Test team. He finished his days playing two seasons with Somerset.
