Profile
A 12-year first-class career with Western Province (1956 to 1968) saw Bromfield capture 201 wickets as a useful offbreak bowler. He made his Test debut against New Zealand in 1961 after the retirement of Hugh Tayfield, who had kept him out the national team. Having the ability of keeping one end up with his accuracy, he bowled a marathon spell of 57 overs taking 5 for 88 out of an England total of 442 in the third Test in Cape Town. His only Test abroad was at Lord's against England after which he was left out of the team for the young Athol McKinnon.
