INDIA v ZIMBABWE

At Hamilton, March 7

15-Apr-1993
At Hamilton, March 7. India won by 55 runs, India's total having been revised to 158 and Zimbabwe's to 103 from their highest-scoring 19 overs. Toss: India. Another rain-affected match was decided by the controversial rule on shortened innings. This time India, unlucky against Australia, were the beneficiaries. But there was widespread sympathy for Zimbabwe, who were making good progress in pursuit of 204 from 32 overs. Their 104 for one from 19.1 compared well with 106 for three at the same point of the Indian innings. With Flower, who had reached 200 runs in the tournament, still at the crease, another 100 from 13 was not impossible. In the morning, three hours had been lost to rain, and Tendulkar dominated the 32 overs allotted to India. He scored 81 from 77 balls (one six, eight fours), and with Manjrekar added 99 in 15 overs for the fourth wicket.
Man of the Match: S. R. Tendulkar. Attendance: 1,520.
